Out of Sight NOT Out of Mind: Championing the RIghts of Young People in the Secure Estate

Who the course is for?
  

This training is designed for those who are new to the area of children’s rights, and the care system in secure settings, including Young Offender Institutes (YOI), Secure Units, Secure Homes and Psychiatric Units.

What does it cover?

You will gain an overview of the secure estate and the experience and issues faced by young people.  You will learn the essentials of children’s rights (both Universal and those within The Children Act 1989) when supporting young people who have had their liberty
restricted.  You will practice mechanisms for achieving outcomes for young people through effective advocacy.  We also explore safeguarding, confidentiality and practice issues within the secure estate.  

By the end of the day you will have a good grasp of the secure world and how to protect young people’s rights.

Course information: 1 day course including a free copy of Locked Up, Looked After, a comprehensive
guide for young people and workers in all forms of secure establishments.

Time: 9.30am-4.30pm
